Welcome | Rev. Paul Yoo, Senior Director of Spiritual Formation & Mission
Call to Worship | Psalm 99:1-3
Leader: The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations.
All: Let them praise your great and awesome name—he is holy.
Song of Praise | Only a Holy God
Who else commands all the hosts of heaven?
Who else could make every king bow down?
Who else can whisper and darkness trembles?
Only a Holy God
What other beauty demands such praises?
What other splendor outshines the sun?
What other majesty rules with justice?
Only a Holy God
Come and behold Him
The One and the Only
Cry out, sing holy
Forever a Holy God
Come and worship the Holy God
What other glory consumes like fire?
What other power can raise the dead?
What other name remains undefeated?
Only a Holy God
(Chorus)
Who else could rescue me from my failing?
Who else would offer His only Son?
Who else invites me to call Him Father?
Only a Holy God
Only my Holy God
(Chorus x 2)
Song of Praise | Honey in the Rock
There’s honey in the rock
Water in the stone
Manna on the ground
No matter where I go
I don’t need to worry
Now that I know
Everything I need You’ve got
There’s honey in the rock
Praying for a miracle
Thirsty for the Living Well
Only You can satisfy
Sweetness at the mercy seat
Now I’ve tasted it’s not hard to see
Only You can satisfy
There’s honey in the rock (x 4)
Freedom where the Spirit is
Bounty in the wilderness
You will always satisfy
There’s honey in the rock
Water in the stone
Manna on the ground
No matter where I go
I don’t need to worry
Now that I know
Everything I need You’ve got
There’s honey in the rock
Purpose in Your plan
Power in the blood
Healing in Your hands
Started flowing when You said it is done
Everything You did’s enough
I keep looking
I keep finding
You keep giving
Keep providing
I have all that I need
You are all that I need
I keep praying
You keep moving
I keep praising
You keep proving
I have all that I need
You are all that I need
I have all that I need
You are all that I need
There’s honey in the rock
Water in the stone
Manna on the ground
No matter where I go
I don’t need to worry
Now that I know
Everything I need You’ve got
There’s honey in the rock
Purpose in Your plan
Power in the blood
Healing in Your hands
Started flowing when You said it is done
Jesus who You are is enough
There’s honey in the rock
There’s honey in the rock
There’s honey in the rock
Oh how sweet
How sweet it is to trust in You Jesus
Oh how sweet
How sweet it is to trust in You Jesus
Oh how sweet
How sweet it is to trust in You Jesus
Prayer of Adoration (Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Silent Praise and Thanksgiving
Doxology | Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Amen
Prayer of Confession
Eternal God, in whom we live and move and have our being, your face is hidden from us by our sins, and we forget your mercy in the blindness of our hearts.
Cleanse us from all our offenses, and deliver us from proud thoughts and vain desires.
With lowliness and meekness may we draw near to you, confessing our faults, confiding in your grace, and finding in you our refuge and strength; through Jesus Christ your Son.
Amen.
Silent Confession
Words of Encouragement | 1 Peter 2:24:
He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
Song of Praise | When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood
See from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all
Greetings and Announcements
Scripture Reading | Revelation 2:18-29
18 “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:
These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.
20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.’
26 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— 27 that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (NIV)
Sermon | The Church in Thyatira by Rev. David Lee of Redeemer Brooklyn
Apostle’s Creed
All: I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of
God the Father Almighty;
from there He will come to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
*[meaning, the true Christian church of all times and all places]
Prayer of Approach
Words of Institution
Minister: Therefore we proclaim the mystery of the faith:
All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Minister: Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.
All: Therefore let us keep the feast.
Minister: The gifts of God for the people of God.
Prayers for Those Not Taking the Lord’s Supper.
Redeemer Presbyterian Church welcomes all baptized Christians who actively trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, who are willing to forsake their sin, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the gospel to receive the Holy Communion with us. Baptized children are welcome to receive Communion when they have been confirmed in their faith. If you are not able to receive Communion, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers.
Prayer for Those Searching for Truth.
Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life you promise. Amen.
Prayer of Belief.
Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen.
Prayer of Commitment.
Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in baptism and in a life of committed discipleship through membership in your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to be one with your people, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. Amen.
[If you are saying the prayer of belief for the first time today, please share with a church officer up front, or let one of the pastors know.]
Distribution of the Bread and Wine
Prayer of Thanksgiving
All: Gracious Lord, we give you thanks for calling us out of the darkness and into your glorious light. When we remember the price you paid, the death of your only Son, we wonder and marvel at the greatness of your love. We give our lives to you Lord, and pray that through your Spirit you would teach us how to live according to your will. Send us out now to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of your mercy. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Reflection Song | Almighty God
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
Search and know our thoughts and anxious fears
Wash us in the fountain of Your mercy
Come with Your light we cannot hide from You
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
With gratitude we raise our song to You
Come and fill the praises of Your people
In grace and truth You make us new again
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
We long for more than what this world provides
No shallow spring will ever satisfy us
But Your river deep floods over everything
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
You take away our sickness and our sin
Oh Lamb of God we gather at Your table
In bread and wine You have supplied our needs
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
Almighty God to You all hearts are open
Closing Song | May the Mind of Christ My Savior
May the mind of Christ, my Savior
Live in me from day to day
By His love and power keeping
All I do and say
May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power
(Chorus)
May the love of Jesus
Be like waters of the sea
Filling heart and soul and mind
With silent majesty
Seeing ever more of Him
And ever less of me
This is victory
May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything
That I may be holy comfort
To the suffering
May the light of Christ shine through me
As He seeks the lost to win
And may they forget the channel
Seeing only Him
(Chorus)
Benediction and Dismissal
Minister: Let us go forth to serve the world as those who love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
