Welcome | Rev. Paul Yoo, Senior Director of Spiritual Formation & Mission
Call to Worship | from Psalm 118
Leader: The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
All: Lord, save us! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Song of Praise | House of the Lord
We worship the God who was
We worship the God who is
We worship the God who evermore will be
He opened the prison doors
He parted the raging sea
My God He holds the victory
(Chorus)
There’s joy in the house of the Lord
There’s joy in the house of the Lord today
And we won’t be quiet
We shout out Your praise
There’s joy in the house of the Lord
Our God is surely in this place
And we won’t be quiet
We shout out Your praise
We sing to the God who heals
We sing to the God who saves
We sing to the God who always makes a way
‘Cause He hung up on that cross
Then He rose up from that grave
My God’s still rolling stones away
(Chorus)
We were the beggars
Now we’re royalty
We were the prisoners
Now we’re running free
We are forgiven, accepted
Redeemed by His grace
Let the house of the Lord sing praise
(Chorus x 2)
Song of Praise | Name Above All Names
Shout and cheer, come on lift your voice
Now, right here everybody rejoice
The King, the King is coming
Can you hear the stones crying out?
Can you hear what they’re singing about?
The King, the King is coming
(Chorus)
The mighty king, exalted one
The humble king who has become
The cornerstone with the name above all names
No more swords and no more spears
No more pain and no more fear
Jesus Christ is the name above all names
(Verse)
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Every knee shall bow
Every tongue confess
He is Lord of all
Above all names
(Bridge)
(Chorus)
The mighty king, exalted one
The humble king who has become
The cornerstone with the name above all names
No more swords and no more spears
No more pain and no more fear
Jesus Christ is the name above all names
No more swords and no more spears
No more pain and no more fear
Jesus Christ is the name above all names
Prayer of Adoration (Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Doxology | Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty
All thy works shall praise thy name
In earth, and sky, and sea
Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity
Prayer of Confession
Heavenly Father, we come before you confessing our sins: impure thoughts, selfish desires, evil passions, and their wicked fruit — cruel words and unjust acts.
Keep us, Lord, from pride, arrogance, and scornful judgment of others.
Lord, you know our temptations and struggles.
Keep us from trusting in anything except your grace.
Show mercy to us that we may seek the righteousness of faith, that we may be forgiven, and that we may be strengthened each day by your Holy Spirit, to serve you in the joy of liberty.
Silent Confession
Words of Encouragement | Isaiah 53:6
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Song of Response | At the Fountain
There is healing at the fountain
Come and find it, weary soul
There your sins will all be covered
Jesus waits to make you whole
(Chorus)
Oh the blessed healing fountain
I’m so glad it’s flowing free
Oh the precious cleansing fountain
Praise the Lord
It washes over me
There is healing at the fountain
Look to Jesus now and live
At the cross lay down your burden
All your wanderings He’ll forgive
(Chorus)
There is healing at the fountain
Precious fountain filled with blood
Come, oh come, the Savior calls you
Come and plunge beneath its flood
(Chorus)
Offering
Gracious God, everything we have comes from you. As we remember who you are and all you have done for us, enable us to be truly generous—with our money, our time, and all we are and have. Use what we give for your glory and the good of our city. Amen.
Greetings and Announcements
Scripture Reading | John 15:1-17
1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: Love each other. Sermon | True Vine by Rev. Bijan Mirtolooi
Song of Response | Lord, I Need You
Lord I come I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
And without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart
(Chorus)
Lord I need You oh I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Where You are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
(Chorus)
So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand
I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
(Chorus)
Song of Response | In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
’Til on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
’Til He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!
