Welcome | Laura Einhorn, Senior Director of Family Ministry
Call to Worship | Psalm 104: 31-33
Leader: May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
All: I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Song of Praise | Crown Him With Many Crowns
Crown him with many crowns
The lamb upon his throne
Hark, how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own
Awake, my soul and sing
Of him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless king
Through all eternity
Crown him the lord of love
Behold his hands and side
Rich wounds, yet visible above
In beauty glorified
No angel in the sky
Can fully bear that sight
But downward bends his burning eye
At mysteries so bright
Crown Him the lord of life
Who triumphed o’er the grave
Who rose victorious in the strife
For those he came to save
His glories now we sing
Who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die
Crown him the lord of peace
Whose power a scepter sways
From pole to pole, that wars may cease
And all be prayer and praise
Crown him with many crowns
As thrones before him fall
Crown him, you kings, with many crowns
For he is king of all
Song of Praise | Ancient of Days
Though the nations rage
Kingdoms rise and fall
There is still one King
Reigning over all
So I will not fear
For this truth remains
That my God is the Ancient of Days
(Chorus)
None above Him none before Him
All of time in His hands
For His throne it shall remain and ever stand
All the power all the glory
I will trust in His name
For my God is the Ancient of days
Though the dread of night
Overwhelms my soul
He is here with me
I am not alone
O His love is sure
And He knows my name
For my God is the Ancient of Days
(Chorus)
Though I may not see
What the future brings
I will watch and wait
For the Saviour king
Then my joy complete
Standing face to face
In the presence of the Ancient of Days
(Chorus)
For my God is the Ancient of Days
Prayer of Adoration (Concluded by the Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Doxology | Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost
Amen
Prayer of Confession
Have mercy on me, O God,
According to your unfailing love,
According to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
Silent Confession
Words of Encouragement | from Zephaniah 3
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart. The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
Prayers of the People
Song of Response | His Mercy Is More
What love could remember no wrongs we have done
Omniscient all knowing He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
What patience would wait as we constantly roam
What Father so tender is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest the vilest the poor
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
What riches of kindness He lavished on us
His blood was the payment His life was the cost
We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
(Chorus)
Praise the Lord His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness new every morn
Our sins they are many His mercy is more
Offering
Gracious God, everything we have comes from you. As we remember who you are and all you have done for us, enable us to be truly generous—with our money, our time, and all we are and have. Use what we give for your glory and the good of our city. Amen.

Scripture Reading | Romans 8:1-13
1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. (NIV)
Sermon | Living By the Spirit by Rev. Bijan Mirtolooi
Song of Response | The Spirit of the One
The Spirit of the one
Who makes my heart sing
Reminds me that I am a child of the king
The Spirit is my guide
Who lifts up my head
So I can see clearly the path that I tread
The Spirit of the one
Who gave his last breath
Has freed me from living in sin and in death
The Spirit gives me peace
And makes my heart sure
There’s no condemnation for me anymore
Spirit here in the storm and the strife
When i feel that the outcome’s unsure
I know that you pray for my life
And I am secure
The Spirit of the one
Who hovered upon
The seas of creation and sang forth the dawn
The Spirit sings in me
A song of rebirth
And he will renew all the face of the earth
The Spirit of the one
Who raised Jesus up
Is living in me with his power and love
The Spirit gives me hope
And comfort and then
When my life is over I will rise again
Spirit here in the storm and the strife
When i feel that the outcome’s unsure
I know that you pray for my life
And I am secure
Spirit here in the storm and the strife
You surround me with love that endures
I know that you pray for my life
And I am secure
Song of Response | In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
’Til on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine,
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
’Til He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!
