Grace and Peace

Series: The Sacred Life

Book: Galatians

Scripture: Galatians 1:1-9

In the opening of his letter Paul greets them with his standard ‘grace and peace’, connecting it to the rescue from the ‘evil age’ secured through the death of Jesus.  This sets up his passionate defense of the gospel he preached to them in light of his concern that a false gospel has infiltrated their ranks and begun to cause confusion, threatening the very freedom Jesus died to give them.  Having just celebrated Easter the week before this sermon (and series), Paul’s letter is a reminder of the need to keep central the truth and practice of the implications of Christ’s life, death and resurrection as we seek to enjoy and live in light of the new creation. (6:15).
