This psalm invites the earth to rejoice, the coastlands to be glad. But quickly we get a startling theophany, a throne scene where God shrouded in a dangerous thunderstorm. “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne”. This appears to be both good and bad news! The theme of idols and unrighteousness are again brought up and reinforced. Idol-worshippers will be “put to shame” in a lightning flash revelation. Light and joy is sown for “his saints” giving the psalm a powerful accent of hope.
Lent season is upon us! Use this time to reflect on what Jesus has done for us.
