“Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?” (Mark 2:9). In other words, why is forgiveness so hard? Jesus’ question gets at why forgiveness is not an easy matter. It’s harder than performing a healing miracle. The real miracle is God’s irruption into a world of grudges and paybacks with free grace.
