Why is it that every year so many people love singing Christmas carols? Perhaps one reason we love singing them year-after-year is because deep down we know they are more than just songs. The songs are telling the true story of how love itself came into our world to save and heal and rescue.
In her excellent essay, “Wondrous Love,” Marilynne Robinson wrote that the stories of Jesus’ birth and resurrection
Tell us that there is a great love that has intervened in history, making itself known in terms that are startlingly, and inexhaustibly, palpable to us as human beings. They are tales of love, lovingly enacted once, and afterward cherished and reotold–by the grace of God, certainly, because they are, after all, the narrative of an obscure life in a minor province. Caesar Augustus was also said to be divine, and there aren’t any songs about him.
This Sunday is Redeemer West Side’s annual Lessons and Carols worship services. Join us, and bring a friend along with you. Through readings and song, we get to experience again the greatest story of all: that love itself took on flesh and came to dwell among us.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Bijan

The Elders postponed the annual nomination process for Elders and Diaconate, which typically takes place in November. We are taking time to revamp the process and timing related to the selection, training, and integration of new servant leaders. Our goal is to develop a path that ensures our Elders and Diaconate are well-equipped and fully prepared to serve the church effectively. We will provide updates on the revised schedule and process in the spring.
