WS Update: West Side Youth Update

August 25, 2025

We are thrilled to announce a wonderful new chapter for our youth ministry. Rev. Brian Ryu started last week as our new WS Youth Director! He will be overseeing and working alongside our terrific team: Cheyenne, Austin, Rachel, and our volunteers.

Brian comes to us with a wealth of experience from leading a large and vibrant youth ministry. We reviewed nearly 60 candidates for the role, and our leadership was impressed by his pastoral heart and thoughtful approach to discipleship. He has a passion for helping students engage personally with God’s Word and build community. Brian is committed to partnering with parents, seeing youth ministry as a vital extension of the family’s discipleship at home and the church’s discipleship of all members. He is a mature, godly leader, and we are confident that he will guide our students with wisdom and care as they navigate their faith in our city and learn to know Jesus more fully.

Brian’s family includes Esther, along with their children Manny and Zoe, and they have just settled into their new apartment here on the UWS. Please be sure to introduce yourself and welcome them all to Redeemer!

Grace and Peace,
Drew

Volunteer with WS Youth

West Side Youth couldn’t exist without a fantastic team of volunteers. We welcome volunteers for all of our events, but our greatest need is always regular volunteers on Friday nights for Youth Group, which kicks off on September 5. Please sign up by clicking here.

Outside of Fridays, we have opportunities at Sunday Discipleship Groups, retreats, gatherings, and more. Our Lake Champion Fall Retreat is Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28. Let us know if you’d like to join the work crew for a fun weekend.

New Leaders and New Hosts

In preparation for the new ministry year, a season where we are welcoming many newcomers into our church, we are asking for all of you to get excited with us and help us launch new pilot community groups! Please take a moment to think: who has a welcoming spirit and places their trust in the word of God? Who has been a great encouragement to you in your own CG? And practically speaking, who might have space to have six or more folks over to hang out for a couple of hours? Please recommend someone you know (or volunteer yourself) to serve as a Pilot CG leader or host.
