“Am I leading a rebellion that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me?” (Mark 14:48, NIV). In other words, how does Jesus change the world? Jesus makes a veiled mockery of the armed crowd, as though he were actually a threat. Why did Jesus consistently come across as a threat to the religious and political elites? Why does the thought of following Jesus intimidate people still today? Jesus gives up his life to the machinations of the justice system. He is abandoned by his scared disciples. But in the end he does bring a revolution that can’t be stamped out by corrupt courts or a cross.
Lent season is upon us! Use this time to reflect on what Jesus has done for us.
