“Hues of Haiti” is a photographic exploration of Haitian values and its influence on the experiences, expressions, and growth of both first- and second-generation Haitian Americans in NYC. Though Black-American and Haitian-American stories are often defined in the media by their struggle between oppression and liberation, expressions of beauty, joy, and resilience flourish throughout these communities.
In her debut exhibit, “Hues of Haiti,” Ashley captures an intimate, joyous, and local glimpse into the vibrant community that surrounds her. Through this exhibit, we extend an invitation to reflect upon the possibility of joy in resilience, and to celebrate the immeasurable power of community.
