The W83 Gallery and the AHRC New York City Foundation present “Show Up and Show Out“, an exhibition by artists who attend the Fisher Center, a day program that serves adults with intellectual disabilities in East Harlem.
The interests of the artists span a broad range of subject matter, including portraits, flowers, cartoon characters, famous singers and movie stars, letters, geometry and abstraction. A love of color is a central theme of the work.
Through their artwork, the artists gain a sense of purpose, accomplishment and self-esteem. They also find a sense of community in the art studios at the center as the artists work together to realize their projects.
We hope this exhibition shows that creativity lives in everyone, and that all people bring their own aesthetic sensibility to the world.
Exhibit opens on Friday, December 1 and runs through Monday, January 29.
