Series: The Sacred Life

Book: Galatians

Scripture: Galatians 3:15-25

Paul continues to show those he has called ‘foolish’ and ‘bewitched’ (3:1) the role of the law in the life of the Christian.  He demonstrates this through language of covenant and showing the binding nature of God’s promise to Abraham that didn’t change when Moses came along with the 10 Commandments.  Paul again emphasizes that the law can show us what righteousness looks like but can’t make us righteous.  (3:21) The law does, however,  have a role in the Christian life.  God’s law reveals life as it was meant to be, revealing a moral framework that reflects the new creation and liberation from this present evil age.  So the law does have a role in the life of a Christian as something to be obeyed out of gratitude and love for God.  The righteous, Paul writes, will live by faith (3:11).
