Paul completes his exhortation to stand firm against the powers of this dark world with the power of prayer in the Spirit, the power of the Kingdom of the light of the world. Prayer is to be combined with an alertness that echoes Jesus’ reminder to his disciples to “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mark 14:34-38)
