The power that animates our sacred call to love our neighbors in service to healing the City comes from the Holy Spirit. When Jesus calls us to follow him he empowers (gifts) us by the Spirit in a way that only together can we fulfill his mandate to make disciples. This sermon and text highlight the Holy Spirit and his role in our salvation and community, coming after a warning by Paul on reducing the Lord’s Supper to just another meal. We are not just another NGO or non-profit organization, but a supernaturally empowered body that is the kingdom of God on earth.
