The Trustees of Redeemer West Side (“RWS” or “Church”) created a Scholarship Fund in 2026. Recipients are RWS members pursuing undergraduate or seminary study who meet the criteria.
Policy
I. Purpose: To provide financial assistance to qualified individuals within our community to pursue higher education, as an expression of our commitment to the flourishing of God’s church and His work in the world.
We seek to support students who demonstrate a growing faith in Christ and a desire to integrate that faith into every aspect of their lives—including their academic, professional, and vocational pursuits. In doing so, we affirm God’s call to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city” and aim to invest in future leaders who will serve both the church and the broader community through lives of faithful presence, whether in ministry or in the workplace.
II. Governance: The fund is overseen by the Scholarship Committee, appointed by the Trustees.
III. Contributions: Donors may contribute to the fund generally but may not designate specific recipients. If a student’s name appears on the memo line of a check or in any communications from the donor, Redeemer will return the gift to the donor.
IV. Eligibility and Selection: Applicants must be Active Members or Non-Communing Members. Applicants submit an application form describing their interest in and giftedness for service in college, seminary, and beyond. Selection is based on alignment with the scholarship fund’s purpose, as determined by the Committee using objective criteria, without discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, ability, or national or ethnic origin.
V. Disbursement: Awards are one-time grants per academic year. All payments are made directly to the recipient’s educational institution toward tuition only. Scholarships are “tax-free” under Section 117 of the Internal Revenue Code.
VI. Monitoring: Recipients must provide proof of enrollment and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to remain eligible for subsequent applications.
VII. Annual Reports: The Committee should report to the Trustees the total number of applicants, the number of recipients, and the total funds disbursed. Records of all applications (including those denied) are retained for at least three years.
