WS Update: Friendship

October 21, 2024

As we saw in yesterday’s sermon, one of the wonders of the Christian faith is that Jesus calls his people friends:

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command (John 15:13-14).

Friendship with Jesus is made possible through the gospel. And now Christians show the gospel in the quality of their friendships with each other. When Christians practice friendship–sharing life together, loving and caring for one another in sacrificial ways–it’s a sign that they belong to Jesus:

As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another (John 13:34-35).

Friendship is at the heart of the Christian story. That’s one reason why I’m thrilled about our new 20s and 30s group. One of the goals for this group is to come together to form “Jesus-led friendship.” In a city as lonely, transient, and fast-paced as ours, we need spaces to make and be friends.

If you’re in your 20s and 30s, come visit on an upcoming Wednesday night!

With hope,

Pastor Bijan

20s & 30s Group – Wednesdays at 7 pm

Are you in your 20s or 30s and looking to grow in your faith with others? We’d love to have you join us! Whatever your history with faith may be, young adulthood is a decisive period for anyone’s beliefs—spiritual or otherwise. We learn and unlearn a lot as we wrestle with big questions about God and ourselves and it’s helpful to do this with others. This autumn, we’ve been studying “Praying with the Psalms” by Tim Keller.

You’re invited on Wednesdays at 7 pm – and feel free to bring a friend!
