This coming Sunday, we’re starting a new sermon series called “The Church in the City.” We’ll be studying through the first couple chapters of the book of Revelation. In those chapters, we find seven letters from Jesus himself to seven local churches. These churches had specific spiritual strengths as well as specific temptations and shortcomings.
For all the mystery and imagery of the book of Revelation, at its heart, Revelation—and these seven letters specifically—is addressed to real churches in real cities. The Christians in these churches were trying to faithfully follow Jesus amid temptation and persecution. These letters are Jesus’ word to his church to challenge them, strengthen them, and build them up in his own image.
Redeemer has always sought to be a church in and for New York City. Our sermon series this summer will examine Jesus’ words to the churches in those cities, so that we might grow as the church in our city that Jesus wants us to be.
See you Sunday,
Bijan
