Augustine, a fourth-century church leader, described the Lord’s Supper as a “bond of love.” When Christians eat the bread and drink the cup, they are nourished by Christ as they experience their union with him. And the supper also reminds Christians that they are bound to each other–that the church is a family.
Beginning on February 9, Redeemer West Side will celebrate the Lord’s Supper in a new way. Instead of having you take prepackaged communion elements as you enter the sanctuary, the elements will be distributed during the worship service itself. As each person passes the trays of bread and cup to their neighbor, we get to experience in a small but real way that we are bonded together in Christ’s love. The church is a family, serving one another and eating together.
I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday as we gather around Jesus’ table and experience our union with him and with each other more fully.
See you then,
Bijan
P.S.: Ordinarily, we celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month. February is a rare exception!

If you’re interested in becoming a member, this class is a requisite. It teaches the gospel theology and ministry of Redeemer West Side. We cover what’s behind the five membership vows, how a PCA church is led, and how members step into our sacred call to love our neighbors and heal our city.
