This Psalm is a culminating song of a series of Psalms that are called the “Hallel”, songs that one Jewish scholar described as songs of jubilation that accompanied their wanderings, “keeping awake within us the consciousness of our world historical mission – strengthening us in times of sorrow and suffering…reviving in us the memory of divine redemption and our confidence of future greatness”. The shouts of praise on Palm Sunday that turned to shouts of crucifixion on Good Friday have become permanent expressions of wonder on Easter as we realize “I will not die but live.”
