In East London, there’s a famous fire station. Over the garages in big block letters are the words: LOVE IS THE RUNNING TOWARDS. That’s an apt motto for firefighters, and also a very fine summary of what Christians believe Christmas is all about. The coming of Jesus Christ as a baby in Bethlehem was love itself running into our broken and dark world bringing light and life.
This coming Sunday is our annual Lessons & Carols services. Lessons & Carols is a special Sunday in which we get to hear and experience afresh the wonder and power of the Christmas story. I invite you to bring a friend or neighbor with you to one of our services this Sunday, as we remember and experience love from beyond the walls of this world, a love that came running towards us to save, to heal, to put things to rights. God really did become flesh, and he made his dwelling among us (John 1v14). Or as Eugene Peterson puts it: the Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood.

Join us for our annual Redeemer West Side tradition! We’ll hear the account of Jesus’ birth told through Scripture readings, beautiful congregational carols, and a special message.
