WS Update: Prayer as We Begin a New Year

December 30, 2024

John Wesley was an 18th-century pastor, and at the start of each new year, he would encourage the churches in his network to pray this prayer:

Gracious God,
I am no longer my own, but yours.
Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by you or laid aside for you,
Exalted for you or brought low for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
You are mine, and I am yours. So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven.
Amen.

As we begin a new year, I encourage you to consider praying this prayer yourself, to make it your own. Because Jesus gave his all for us, we can, with joy, surrender our whole lives to him. We’ll use this prayer in our worship services this coming Sunday as well as we look ahead to a new year.

See you then,

Pastor Bijan

New Sermon Series & Vision Sunday
This January, we’re thrilled to launch our church’s value of shalom. On January 5, we kick off a new sermon series, For the City.

You’ll also want to attend one of our special Vision Sunday services on January 12 at 9:30 or 11:30 am! We’ll explore why and how our church is called to pursue and promote shalom (holistic flourishing) in our city. Together, we can discern how to join in what God is doing to bring renewal.
